Adults


There are many opportunites for adults to learn and grow in the Lord.  Contact the Pastor, Anita Beem Director of Education and Outreach, or the church office at 248-645-1990 for more information about any of these opportunities.

Adult Education:  Sunday's 11:00 AM-11:45 AM during the academic year.
  •  All adults are invited to learn in a variety of ways including a Bible study, sermon discussion and a study of the Belgic Confession.
  • The Bible study group in 2011-2012 will be studying (1) Discover the God of Second Chances: Hosea; (2) Discover Mark; (3) The Holy Spirit: Under the Influence; (4) Discover Ruth

Sunday Night Alive!  
  • On alternate Sunday evenings through the fall, winter, and spring months, North Hills gathers for fellowship, dinner, informal worship, and small group discussions centered on a variety of topics. All are welcome.  A free nursery is available.

  • 2012 Dates: January 15&29, February 12 & 26, March 11 & 25

    Groups for Adults: 6:00-7:00 p.m.

* WHERE THE CONFLICT REALLY LIES — Pastor Engle Read and discuss Dr. Al Plantinga's new book Where the Conflict Really Lies: Science, Religion, and Naturalism. Tired of both a condescending dismissal of Christianity and an anti-scriptural approach to science, emeritus Notre Dame philosopher and current Calvin philosophy professor, Plantinga released this book just this past month (and it immediately sold out on Amazon). Participants should purchase their own copy.

* PROPHETS & KINGS — Anita Beem
More clearly understand the Bible by knowing more about the cultural context within which God spoke and acted and the perception of the people with whom He communicated. Be guided (via DVD) by renowned teacher/historian Ray Vander Laan through the land of the kings and prophets (filmed on location) and be transformed in your understanding of God.

* INTRODUCTION TO ISLAM — Don Peruski
This class will focus on (1) general facts about Islam, (2) Islam’s beginnings with Mohammad and the Qur’an, (3) key teachings including the Five Pillars, (4) topics such as the status of women and ethical issues within Islamic society, (5) Islamic history from 650 A.D. to the present - jihad, extremism..., (6) how Christians might relate with Muslims.

* WORKSHOP ON WELLNESS (W.O.W.) — Joe Wardie & Kristi Bowles
Sessions 1-3 with Joe will cover how our bodies work, how to get well and stay well, chiropractic care, kinesiology, diet, detoxification, tips on exercise (heart rate monitors, correct shoes, proper breathing, balance training, etc.) from an Applied Kinesiologist's perspective. Sessions 4-6 with Kristi will cover how to stretch properly, work on posture, strengthen your core and address balance - emphasizing learning proper techniques and figuring out what "drivers" might be causing issues.

* IN SERVICE — Randy Drewry
For the person who wants to be up and active, each week this group will be busy around the building serving the congregation by doing little projects that need doing: repairing, touch-up painting, detail cleaning, stuffing visitor mugs, and so on....

 
   

Coffee Break
  • This interdenominational Bible Study for women meets on Wednesdays from 9:45AM-11:00AM.  A nursery for children under 5 is available upon request. 
  • The studies for 2011-2012 will include (1) Abraham:Trusting the God Who Calls; (2) Discover Luke: Jesus' Birth and Ministry Preparation/Jesus' Ministry in Galilee; (3) discover the Sermon on the Mount.
                                                  

Bible Break
  • The Adult Bible Study  group meets Wednesday evenings from 6:00PM – 7:00 PM for spiritual growth through study of the Bible.
  • The studies for 2011-2012 will include (1) Abraham:Trusting the God Who Calls; (2) Discover Luke: Jesus' Birth and Ministry Preparation/Jesus' Ministry in Galilee; (3) discover the Sermon on the Mount.

Music Ministries
  • The Choir  (ages 14-adult) meets on Wednesday evenings twice per month.  See the calendar for specific dates and times.  The Choir is under the direction of Dan Mikat.
